Abstract

In 2008, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research introduced a grant program for research and development in the domain of Ambient assisted living (AAL). AAL is an umbrella term for products and services, which are designed to support daily activities for old or disabled people by technological means. The present paper describes a project called “Motivotion60+”. It includes computer games in order to enable elderly users to conduct preventive home-based and outdoor exercise according to modern principles of exercise science.

During design and development, we follow the main components of the innovation model introduced by Steg and colleagues, tailored for the purpose of the exergame project.  The technological implementation is appropriately done and significantly improved through Microsoft Kinect. Several aspects for further improvement were detected through feasibility and acceptance trials using prototypes.
